Dear Tennis Friends,
It has been a very tough last 4 weeks since my last email, but I still wanted to send you one last email update from Utah Tennis. Before I do so, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for all the support you have given us this year. I am sorry the results were not the way they have been in previous years, but this year has marked many learning opportunities for this team. Although it is always very hard to look back at a losing season, we have to go back and learn from our mistakes in order to improve for the future.
Nevertheless, one of the highlights of this year has been our senior Phillip Eilers. Phillip played #1 singles and doubles for us this past year and has improved tremendously the past two years that he has been with us. His advancements didn't go unnoticed as he was named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year as well as the Mountain Region Senior Player of the Year. Congrats Phil!
Along with Phillip, we will also lose Timmy Allin and Jason Smits. Both players have been with us for 4 years and have been a major part of the successes we have had. Timmy was awarded the Dr. Burtis Evans Scholarship Award for having obtained the highest GPA amongst all senior male student-athletes at the U. Congrats Timmy!
We would like to wish all three of them all the best in their careers and hope to receive their support with the same passion and heart they showed on the court. We will sure miss them.
With the end of one year, comes the beginning of another. Besides the earlier signees, local standouts Mat Cowley and Devin Lane, we are very proud to announce the commitments of Alejandro Medinilla (Mexico) and Gino Octa (Canada). Both players are highly ranked in their respective countries and have posted some great wins over current college players. We are looking forward to starting to work with these 4 talented players and start a new dominance of Utah tennis.
Thanks again for all of your support this year. Please feel free to stop by the tennis center once in a while this summer to say hi and we hope to see you all again in support of Utah Tennis in 2011.
Thanks and GO UTES,
