ARLINGTON, Texas - The University of Utah men's tennis team (6-13) fell to UT Arlington (6-9), 5-2, Friday at the UTA Tennis Center.
The Utes captured the doubles point sweeping the Mavericks. Jason Smits and Timmy Allin topped Yauheni Yakauleu and Brieuc Hamon, 7-4, from the No. 2 position. Stephen Jacobs and Benito Suriano defeated Gonzalo Bienzobas and Adam Srkala, 8-4, clinching the doubles point from the No. 3 slot. Phillip Eilers and Alex Golding captured the doubles sweep from the No. 1 spot topping Dmitry Minkin and Mindaugas Celedinas, 8-6.
In singles, the Utes' second point came from Jacobs who defeated David Subirats, 6-3, 6-3, from the No. 5 slot.
In the No. 4 position Allin fell to Yauheni Yakauleu, 7-6, 6-2. Golding was defeated by Brieuc Hamon, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2, in the No. 3 slot.
Dmytro Mamedov fell to Jason Lateko, 7-6, 7-5, in the No. 6 position. In the No. 1 spot Eilers was defeated by Dmitry Minkin, 4-6, 6-0, 6-4. Smits fell to Mindaugas Celedinas, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6, in the No. 2 position.
