COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Utah men's tennis team (6-11, 1-1) defeated Air Force (10-7, 0-2), 5-2, Saturday. The match began outdoors and was forced to move inside due to wind.
The Utes clinched the doubles point with wins from the Nos. 1 and 3 positions. Phillip Eilers and Alex Golding defeated Brett Rodgers and Taylor Soster, 8-5, and Benito Suriano and Stephen Jacobs topped Alex Beaussart and Sam Barnes, 8-4.
In the No. 2 slot Timmy Allin and Jason Smits fell to Austin Francis and Lance Wilhelm, 8-6.
Utah continued with wins from the No. 1 and 4 positions. Eilers topped Wilhelm, 6-3, 6-2, and Golding defeated Rodgers, 6-1, 6-1.
In the No. 3 slot Suriano was defeated by Soster, 6-4, 7-5. In the No. 2 spot Smits fell to Francis, 7-5, 2-6, 7-5.
Allin topped Vinni Lodolo, 6-3, 6-1, in the No. 5 position and Jacobs defeated Beaussart, 7-5, 6-1, in the No. 6 slot.
The Utes will continue on the road next weekend against TCU Thursday, April 8 in Fort Worth, Texas. The match will begin at 6:00 p.m. CT.
