FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.- The University of Utah women's tennis team (2-4) fell to 17th-ranked Arkansas (5-1), by a score of 6-1, Sunday at the Dill Indoor Tennis Stadium. Sophomore Lisa Johnson earned the Utes' point from the No. 6 singles position by defeating Valentina Starkova, 3-6, 6-3, 10-8.

"We had to play a top twenty team on the road with out our number one player," said head coach Mat Iandolo. "I think that we competed fairly well at some spots and the we will get better from this."

In doubles play, sophomore Missy Harris and freshman Paige Miles were topped, at the No. 2 spot, by Kate Lukomskaya and Kelsey Sundaram, 8-0. Seniors Erin Monson and Andrea Maughan were defeated by Anouk Tigu and Claudine Paulson at the No. 1 position, 8-3, giving the Razorbacks the doubles point.

Junior Evgenia Kryuchkova and Johnson fell, at the No. 3 position, to Stephanie Roy and Starkova, 8-5.

In singles play, Harris was topped at the No. 4 position by Sundaram, 6-3, 6-0, putting Arkansas up, 2-0, over Utah.

Miles fell to Roy, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 3 spot and Monson was defeated by Tigu at the No. 1 position, 6-4, 6-1, clinching the match for the Razorbacks at 4-0.

Johnson then earned the Utes' point from the No. 4 spot, making the score 4-1.

Maughan was topped by Paulson at the No. 5 position, 6-1, 6-4, and Kryuchkova fell to Carbone, 6-4, 7-5, at the No. 2 position, making the final score, 6-1.

Utah is still without sophomore Anastasia Putilina who suffered an injury in the match against Colorado a week ago.

The Utes face the Oklahoma State Cowgirls (2-1) in Tulsa tomorrow, February 8, at 11 a.m. CT at the DeBois Tennis Complex.
