SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team (4-4) was defeated by Boise State (4-3), 6-1. Alex Golding earned Utah's only point from the No. 3 position topping Harry Skinner, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7.

The Utes came prepared to play very hard-fought doubles matches coming up short against the Broncos. The No. 2 team of Stephen Jacobs and Jason Smits fell to Vicente Joli and Pogostkin, 8-6.

Boise State clinched the doubles point from the No. 3 slot Timmy Allin and Benito Suriano were defeated by Nick Gourley and Skinner, 8-6. The No. 1 doubles team of Phillip Eilers and Golding fell in a tie-breaker to James Meredith and Jeff Mullen, 9-8(6).

The Broncos continued their lead in the No. 5 spot Allin was defeated by Cristian Hodel, 6-2, 6-2. Smits fell to Jolie, 6-4, 6-4, from the No. 2 position. Boise State clinched the match from the No. 6 slot, Jacobs was defeated by Mullen, 6-4, 6-3.

In the No. 1 position Eilers fell to No. 36-ranked Meredith, 7-6(3), 6-2. Dmytro Mamedov was defeated by Pogostlein, 6-4, 6-2. Golding earned Utah's point topping Skinner from the No. 3 spot.

The Utes will host San Francisco Saturday at the Eccles Tennis Center beginning at 5 p.m.
