SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team (3-3) hosted a double-header against Big Sky opponents Montana State (0-6) and Idaho State (0-4) Saturday at the Eccles Tennis Center. The Utes swept the Bobcats and the Bengals, 7-0.

"It is good to have two wins on our home court," said head coach F.D. Robbins. "We expect to win at home and we did that today. Winning the doubles points gave us momentum and we expect to continue to win the doubles point."

The first match against Montana State began with Utah sweeping the doubles point. The No. 1 team of Phillip Eilers and Alex Golding topped Fletcher Keyes and Alberto Fuentes, 8-1. Stephen Jacobs and Benito Suriano clinched the doubles point for the Utes defeating Esteban Ferrero and Myles Perkins from the No. 2 position, 8-4. Timmy Allin and Artem Strunnikov closed the doubles sweep from the No. 3 slot defeating Pawel Turzanski and James Stoszcuk, 8-5.

Utah continued their lead from the No. 5 spot, freshman Dmytro Mamedov topped Perkins, 6-0, 6-0, giving the Utes a 2-0 lead over the Bobcats. Jacobs defeated Staszuk, 6-2, 6-0, from the No. 6 slot setting up Eilers to clinch the match for Utah at 4-0 topping Turzanski, 6-1, 6-2, from the No. 1 position.

In the No. 3 slot Golding defeated Fuentes, 6-1, 7-5. Allin topped Ferrero, 6-2, 6-2, from the No. 4 spot. Jason Smits closed the sweep from the No. 2 position for Utah defeating Keyes, 7-6, 6-4.

The second match of the day for Utah began at 5 p.m. against Idaho State. Utah swept the doubles competition to start with a 1-0 lead over the Bengals.

The No. 1 doubles team of Eilers and Golding defeated Javier Royo and Danel Barrenchea, 8-2. Jacobs and Suriano clinched the doubles point for Utah from the No. 2 position with a, 8-3, win over Dakota Pate and Dan Buckingham. The doubles sweep came from the No. 3 slot of Allin and Strunnikov with a win over Nate Gross and Colton Pate, 8-3.

In singles Utah began with a win from the No. 3 slot, Golding topped D. Pate, 6-1, 6-1. From the No. 1 spot Eilers had a, 6-1, 6-1, win over Royo giving the Utes a 3-0 lead over the Bengals.

Jacobs clinched the match at 4-0 for Utah from the No. 6 position defeating C. Pate, 6-2, 6-2.

Smits had a, 6-4, 6-2, victory over Barrenecha in the No. 2 slot. In the No. 5 position Mamedov topped Gross, 1-6, 6-1, 6-0, setting up Allin to finish the sweep with a victory from the No. 4 position defeating Buckingham, 6-3, 7-6(3).

Up next Utah will host Weber State Friday, Feb. 19 beginning at 5 p.m. at the Eccles Tennis Center.
