SALT LAKE CITY - University of Utah cross country athlete Amanda Mergaert earned All-Region recognition from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday.
Mergaert's ninth-place finish at the NCAA Mountain Regional Championships, qualified her for the 2010 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, to which will be held Monday, Nov. 22, in Terre Haute, Ind. Mergaert completed the six-kilometer course at the NCAA Mountain Regional Championships with a new personal-record time of 20:45.2.
"We are all excited for Mergaert," said Utah head coach Kyle Kepler. "She has worked extremely hard this season and ran a terrific race at the NCAA Mountain Regional Championships."
Mergaert qualified to compete at the cross country NCAA Championships for the first time in her career. She is the second Ute in the last three years to individually qualify for the NCAA Championships as an individual.
