SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team has signed Geoffrey Matias to a National Letter of Intent, announced assistant coach Roeland Brateanu. Matias, is a five-star recruit out of Torrance, Calif.
"We are very proud to announce the commitment of Ace Matias," stated Brateanu. "Ace is a stand up young man with a great track record on the tennis court and in the classroom. We appreciate his trust in us and we are looking forward to having him as a part of our Ute family."
Matias' has earned a national ranking as high as No.26 and he has been consistently ranked in the top-10 in the boys U18 division in Southern California, reaching as high as third. He is also a 2009 finalist of the USTA Winter National Championships and is currently 2-1 vs Blue Chip Recruits.
"Adding a 5-star recruit from Southern Cal is a huge commitment for our program. It is a testament to the exciting things that are happening here at the U," Brateanu added. "We look forward to starting this new era of Utah tennis in the Pac-12 with more players like Ace."
