From Andrew in Charlotte, N.C.
During the recruiting process, what drew you to Utah?
"I'm from North Carolina so I was really drawn by the mountains, because it's so different compared to where I lived. I was just amazed by all of the scenery. Whether you look left or right, there are snow-capped mountains in plain view. I also like all of the architecture because a lot of the buildings looked the same at some of the campuses I visited. They have a lot of different styles here so it's neat to look at and walk though the campus."
From David in Casper, Wyo.
Your season started in September and could possibly go into March. What's it like to compete in such a long season?
"We do a lot of fun stuff during practices to make it seem not so long. The college swimming season is actually shorter compared to high school swimming, which is basically year round. It doesn't seem that long to me because I've been swimming for a long time. We also do a lot of activities as a team, inside and outside of the pool. We have time to build a really close family because our season is a lot longer than most other sports. It's nice because we get really close as a team."
From Chelsey in Elko, Nev.
You and your teammates host Denver on Friday (6 p.m.) in your first home meet of the season. Is there really such a thing as home-pool advantage in swimming and diving?
"I like swimming at home just because all of our friends, classmates, and other people we know can come to the meets to support us. But I wouldn't say there is an advantage swimming-wise. It's more about attitude because we get excited to compete."
From Taylor in Kaysville, Utah
How would you describe head coach Greg Winslow?
"I swam for a lot of coaches before college so I have seen the opposite ends of the spectrum and I really like Coach Winslow's style because he makes me see swimming from a totally different view. He makes swimming a lot more fun and is able to take a lot of pressure off of us. He focuses on racing and just brings back the fun aspects."
From Ann in Cedar City, Utah
What's your favorite event to swim?
"My favorite event if the 100 butterfly because it's my best stroke. I can score a lot of points for Utah in that event. It's something I'd like to think that I'm good at."
