FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- The University of Utah women's swimming and diving team beat conference rival Colorado State with a score of 160 to 140 on Friday at Moby Pool after alternating wins throughout the night.
"It's always fun to swim against Colorado State, but even more fun when we beat them," Utah head swimming and diving coach Greg Winslow said. "The meet tonight was exactly as we expected. They put up a great fight--it was a very close meet all the way up until that last relay."
Hannah Caron stood out when she won the 100 fly (56.63), the 200 fly (2:06.68), and the 200 IM (2:06.94) for the Utes. She also helped the 200 medley relay take first place (1:45.84). Alongside Caron in the 200 medley relay was Traycie Swartz, Samantha Zuch, and Natalie Edge.
Edge had a couple of wins as well in the 100 free (52.39) and the 200 free (1:53.40). Other notable Ute victories include Kayla Buck in the 1000 free (10:47.70) and Maiya Otsuka in the 200 breast (2:22.92).
On the diving boards, Kwan Ling Yu topped the charts in the 3-meter dive (284.33 points) and was the runner-up in the 1-meter dive (256.58).
The meet came down to the final 400 free relay, which included Swartz, Edge, Zuch, and Kristina Evans. The Utes finished in first place to secure their win against the Rams (3:30.52).
"We needed everyone on the team to stand up and do something tonight. They followed everything through to get it done," Winslow said. "It's exciting to be able to depend on them and to have them counting on each other like this. The team is really growing up!"
The Ute men's and women's teams open their home schedule at Ute Natatorium against Denver on Friday, Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. MT.
