PROVO, Utah- Senior Andrea Maughan won the flight-B singles title Friday, September 18 at the BYU Invitational after defeating Aubrey Paul of BYU, 6-1, 6-0 in the finals. In the semifinals the Ute battled it out with Wyoming's Sasa Nemcova, losing the first set 3-6, but winning the next two, 6-2, 6-3, moving her into the finals.

"Today was a good learning experience for us," said head coach Mat Iandolo. "We failed to capitalize on yesterday's success, but we are going to learn from it.

"For the third year in a row we have dominated flight-B singles which says a lot about our depth," continued Iandolo. "I'm very proud of the effort put forth by Andrea and am looking forward to seeing how she plays in Colorado Springs."

In singles flight-A, fifth-seeded junior Evgenia Kryuchkova won against fellow Ute senior Erin Monson, 6-2, 6-1, in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals Kryuchkova fell to first-seeded McCall Jones of BYU, 6-0, 6-1.

In the quarterfinals third-seeded sophomore Anastasia Putilina was upset by sixth-seeded Megan Price of BYU, 0-6, 6-3, 7-5, eighth-seeded freshman Paige Miles fell to Jones, 6-1, 6-1, and Sophomore Missy Harris was topped by BYU's second-seeded Kristina Doerr, 6-4, 6-3.

In the quarterfinal round of doubles play the third-seeded team of Monson and Maughan downed Wyoming's Paloma Navarro and Carly Van Hollen 8-7(5). The two Utes fell to the second-seeded team of Doerr and Romina Nedakovic of BYU in the semifinals, 8-6.

The fourth-seeded team of Putilina and Miles downed BYU's Elizaveta Ezhova and Chie Hayasaka, 8-5. In the semifinals the duo was topped BYU's first-seeded team of Price and Jones, 8-5.

Kryuchkova and Harris fell 8-4, in the quarterfinal to Price and Jones.

The Utes next action takes place at the Air Force Academy Invitational October 2, in Colorado Springs, Colo. Putilina heads to the ITA All-Americans Qualifiers in Los Angeles, Calif. on the same date.
