SALT LAKE CITY- The 44th-ranked Utah women's tennis team (8-6, 2-0) defeated Wyoming (6-10, 1-2), 7-0, in the Utes' second conference match of the season, Saturday. Senior Leigh Walsh earned her fourth match clinching point by downing Carly Van Hollen at the No. 3 position, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1.

"I am not all that upset about having several close singles matches against an un-ranked team," said head coach Mat Iandolo. "Rather, I believe that head coach Kati Gyulai is doing a great job, and I am very impressed with how Wyoming fought. Tomorrow we look to close out the weekend 3-0."

Walsh and Sophomore Evgenia Kryuchkova at the No. 3 doubles position blanked Calli Pass and Carolina Chaix, 8-0. Freshmen Anastasia Putilina and Lisa Johnson downed Jaime Nelson and Rebecca Berger at the No. 2 spot, 8-4, clinching the doubles point for Utah.

Juniors Erin Monson and Andrea Maughan completed the Utes' doubles sweep by defeating Sarah Summerfield and Van Hollen at the No. 1 position ,8-6.

In singles play Maughan at the No. 6 spot topped Pass, 6-0, 6-0, putting Utah up 2-0. Freshman Lexi Provancha then downed Chaix at the No. 5 position, 6-0, 6-0, setting Walsh up to clinch the Ute victory.

Monson at the No. 2 spot defeated Berger, 7-6, 6-2, and Johnson topped Nelson at the No. 4 position 7-6, 6-4, to put Utah up 6-0.

Putilina at the No. 1 spot downed Summerfield, 7-6, 5-7, 10-5, making the final score 7-0.

Utah hosts Air Force (9-10, 0-2) Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Eccles Tennis Center to round out their opening weekend of conference play. This will be the last home match for Utah's four seniors.
