SALT LAKE CITY - The honors continue for Utah offensive tackle Zane Beadles, who this week was named a finalist for the Wuerffel Trophy and invited to the East-West Shrine Game.
Beadles is one of 12 finalists for the Wuerffel Trophy, which honors the college football player who best combines exemplary community service with outstanding academic and athletic achievement. He is the only finalist from the Mountain West Conference.
Beadles will play for the West team in the East-West Shrine Game. The East-West Shrine Game is the longest-running college all-star football game in the country.
A two-time all-Mountain West Conference selection (first team in 2008), Beadles is a four-year starter for the Utes. This season, the left tackle has "won" 491 of his 567 total plays for a team-best 87% overall grade. He has 18 cuts and 10 pancake blocks.
The senior mechanical engineering major holds a 3.535 grade point average and was recently named to the CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District first-team for the second-straight year. Scheduled to graduate in December, he is one of 10 finalists for the Lowe's Senior Class Award.
Beadles regularly participates in community service events and is a member of Utah's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). He also writes a weekly blog for the Sporting News, in which he shares his experiences as a Division I football player.
