LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The University of Utah men's tennis team completed the third day of the ITA Mountain Regional Championships in Las Vegas, Nev. Phillip Eilers continued to dominate in the main draw advancing to semifinal rounds in singles and in doubles with partner Alex Golding.
No. 3 seeded Eilers advanced to the semifinal round in singles topping Corey Smith of Montana State, 7-6, 6-0. Eilers will face No. 10 seeded Wessim Derbel of University of Nevada Reno tomorrow at 12 p.m.
In main draw doubles No. 4 seeded Eilers and Golding advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Joe Wood and Conor Berg of New Mexico, 8-3. In the quarterfinal round the Ute duo topped Stanislav Glukhov and Alex Joitoiu of Idaho, 8-5. The pair will see No. 1 seeded Andrew Landwerlen and David Simson of Denver in the semifinals tomorrow at 10 a.m.
No. 9 seeded Stephen Jacobs and Benito Suriano were defeated by No. 5 seeded Gustave Diep and Eduardo Salas of New Mexico State, 8-4.
Dmytro Mamedov fell out of consolation singles after withdrawing due to injury in the third round.
