Complete 2008 Utah Men's Tennis Schedule
Salt Lake City - The 2008 MWC co-champion University of Utah men's tennis team will host 10 dual matches in the 2008-09 campaign, according to the schedule announced by the team Wednesday. The Utes kick off play Sept. 25-27 with the University of Utah Intercollegiate event in Salt Lake City.
Utah will play one additional fall tournament prior to the beginning of the dual-match season in January. The Utes will head to the ITA Mountain Regional Championships in Las Vegas, Oct. 15-19, an individual tournament where they will attempt to qualify for the individual ITA National Indoor Championships.
The Utes open dual-match play with three straight home matches, taking on Eastern Washington on Jan. 17 and both Utah State and Weber State on Jan. 19. Utah then travels to Waco, Texas, for ITA National Team Indoor Championships qualifying, as they face 2008 NCAA quarterfinalist Baylor on Jan. 30. The Utes then face either San Diego State or Georgia Tech on Jan. 31st.
Other notable non-conference dual matches include a trip to NCAA tournament participant Boise State and a neutral-site contest against traditional Ivy League power Yale.
Utah will play its entire Mountain West Conference slate between April 2 and April 11. The Utes begin that stretch at home against UNLV on April 2, in the first of three straight conference home matches, including an April 7 tilt against rival BYU. The Utes then play their final three conference matches in San Diego: neutral-site contests against Air Force (April 9) and New Mexico (April 10), followed by their only true conference road test, facing San Diego State on the Aztecs' home courts on April 11.
Utah then heads to the Mountain West Conference championships in Albuquerque, N.M., April 23-25. Should they earn a selection to the NCAA Tournament, first and second-round play begins on campus sites, May 8-9.
