SALT LAKE CITY - The Mountain West Conference has named Utah's Zach Ganger and Miron Mann as co-Men's Players of the Week. This is Ganger's third time earning the award and Mann's first time earning the accolade during his career at Utah.
Ganger, a senior and native to Jacksonville, Fla., swept all of his singles matches last weekend at the No. 1 spot. The Ute has compiled an impressive 23-8 singles record now and a 20-6 doubles record in his senior year. Last week, Ganger defeated New Mexico's Johnny Parkes (6-3, 2-6, 6-3), SDSU's Bartosz Golas (7-6(6), 6-2) and Air Force's Brett Rodgers (6-1, 6-1).
"Miron and I had a great week last week, but more importantly the team did as well," said Ganger. "We hope to keep playing with the same intensity we have been playing with and we look forward to competing in Provo against three very tough teams this weekend."
Mann, a senior and native to Toronto, Ontario, pulled out a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 upset over No. 41 Max Jones from New Mexico at the No. 2 spot to start out his weekend. The Ute also posted wins over Air Force's Austin Francis (6-3, 6-1) and SDSU's Juan Gomez (3-6, 7-6(2), 6-1). Mann is currently 10-9 in singles play and has tallied a 13-4 doubles record.
"It was a great honor to be named co-conference player of the week with Zach," said Mann. "The hard work is finally starting to pay off at the right time. Although, more importantly, as a team we are peaking at the right time. It is a good individual honor but everyone on the team deserves credit for this. I thank the players and coaches."
Together, the duo went undefeated in doubles play as well. Playing at the top spot, Ganger and Mann posted wins over UNM's Max Jones and Kamil Pajkowski (8-6), SDSU's Bartosz Golas and Juan Gomez (8-1) and Air Force's Brett Rodgers and Taylor Soster (8-1).
The Utes aided the team in their wins over San Diego State (5-2) and Air Force (7-0). New Mexico slid by with a 4-3 win over the Utes.
