PROVO, UTAH - The University of Utah women's tennis team played a tough UNLV squad on Saturday for a 4-0 loss. The Utes are now 10-6 for the season and 1-1 in conference play.

"This match was a lot closer than the score indicates. If we get to play UNLV in the conference tournament, hopefully we can turn it around," said head coach Mat Iandolo. "Can't take anything away from UNLV though; they played a good match today."

The Utes had a rough start on Saturday in doubles play. No. 41 Elizabeth Ferris and Emily Kwok fell to No. 59 Elena Gantcheva and Kristina Nedeltcheva 8-3 at the top spot. Playing at the No. 3 spot, UNLV's Anna Maskaljun and Katy Williams defeated Andrea Maughan and Erin Monson 8-2. The Rebels earned the doubles point.

In singles play, No. 43 Ferris fell to No. 31 Gantcheva from UNLV in a close 6-4, 6-4 battle at the top spot. Evgenia Kryuchkova faced No. 120 Nedeltcheva at the No. 2 spot. The Rebel dominated the courts to take the match 6-1, 6-1.

At the No. 3 spot, Monson took on Maskaljun at the No. 3 spot to finish out the first wave of singles play. The Rebel took control of the match for the win 6-2, 6-3.

The Rebels, currently ranked No. 62 in the nation, defeated No. 56 Utah 4-0.

When the match was stopped, Kwok was up 6-3, 5-4 at the No. 4 spot, playing Nikol Dimitrova. Leigh Walsh was dominating Katy Williams at the No. 5 position 4-0, and Karine Bourdages and Sharon Marin had just finished their first game at the No. 6 spot with the Ute up 1-0.
