TEMPE, Ariz.- Erin Monson and Anastasia Putilina of the University of Utah women's tennis team completed the second day of play at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. Saturday. The two Utes will have one last round robin doubles match Sunday.
In singles action Monson had a convincing, 6-2, 6-2, win over Sianna Simmons of ASU in the quarterfinal round of consolation play. In the semifinal round Monson took on Stephany Chang (Cal) in a three set match. Monson lost the first set 6-1, came back to win the second 6-4, but was unable to come up with a win in the third, falling 6-1.
Putilina duked it out with Alida Mueller-Wehlau (Arm Atl) in a three set match in the quarterfinal round of consolation play. Putilina took the first set 6-2 and was topped in the second 6-1. The third set of this match was a true battle, Putilina put up a good fight but fell 7-6(6).
In doubles play Monson and Putilina fell to Lyndsay Kinslter and Cristala Andrews of USC 8-2.
The Ute duo will play one more round robin doubles match Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
