OREM, UTAH - The University of Utah sent three runners to race in the Utah Valley Open on Friday evening. Sydney Osmun represented Utah, while Zoe Roy and Brooke Casagranda ran unattached.
Roy finished first for the Utes, clocking in at 20:06.4 to place her 30th overall in the 5K race. Coming in next was Osmun. She finished 47th overall with a 20:52.7 finish time.
"Zoe did a great job today for only getting to work with us twice a week. She is an excellent competitor and ran hard throughout and was a fighter. She handled the competition well," said head coach Kyle Kepler.
"Sydney is coming off of an injury and ran well for her condition," said Kepler. "With more consistent training as she is coming back I think she is going to be fine."
Finishing out the Ute trio on Friday was Casagranda. She crossed the line at 22:54.3 to finish 65th overall. "This race went well for us. We used it to give our kids a chance to race that haven't gotten a lot of experience this year or are still working back from injuries. They got more experience in collegiate races."
"This was Brooke's first collegiate race. It is hard to race unattached, but she did well. She had an excellent experience today at the collegiate level."
