TULSA, Okla.- Sophomore Phillip Eliers of the University of Utah men's tennis team advanced in the first round of ITA All-American Singles National Championship qualifying Friday in Tulsa, Okla. Eilers defeated Adam Srkala of UT Arlington, 6-3, 6-3.
"It is good for Phillip to have a win under his belt," said Assistant Coach Roeland Brateanu. "He started off a little slow but was able to get things rolling as the match went on. Hopefully he can continue this progressing trend throughout the rest of this tournament."
Senior Wes Hancock fell to Adrian Chermaci of Wichita State, 6-1, 6-0, in his first round qualifying match.
The tournament continues Saturday, Oct. 4 with the second and third rounds of qualifying. Eilers will face Francisco Riveroll of Jacksonville University in the second round.
