LARAMIE, Wyo. - Both the women's and men's Ute swimming and diving team lost to Wyoming on Friday. The women fell by a score of 169-130, only their second conference loss of the season. The women are now 5-4 overall and 4-2 in the Mountain West Conference. The men lost 174-121, dropping to 0-5 on the season (0-3 in MWC competition).
"Our focus is in the right place and our training is moving along well," comments head coach Greg Winslow. "Tonight we just got beat. It was frustrating for our team but we didn't roll over which shows strong character from our team. We kept fighting to the last event and now it's time to focus on Air Force tomorrow."
The Utah women were led by Natalie Edge who won three events, including the 400 medley relay (3:53.66), 100 free (52.76), and 400 free relay (3:32.23). Utah watched the momentum of the meet swing n the 200 back where they finished first and third, but due to an infraction for swimming in the wrong lanes they were disqualified and points were taken away.
Kristina Evans won the 200 free in 1:56.14 and teammate Edge was second in the event. Shannon McQueen added a victory in the 100 back with a time of 59.06. Kelly McIntyre won the 200 fly (2:09.14) and Jennifer Fredsall won the 100 fly (57.47).
The men had two victories on the evening. Garret Beaman won the 100 back with a time of 52.64, while Adam Oliver won the 500 free in a time of 4:49.80.
Next up for Utah is Air Force on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., in Colorado Springs, Colo.
