Feigt Takes 21st in Heptathlon

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The University of Utah wrapped competition here at the NCAA Championships this afternoon as senior Amanda Feigt completed the last three events of the heptathlon.
This was the first time that Feigt competed in the multi-event at this level, taking 21st with 5,223 points. She did improve her standing after the first day of competition. At the end of yesterday, Feigt was in 23rd place. She finished just shy of 20th place.
"Amanda was 17 points from 20th place," noted head coach Kyle Kepler. "That was just short of the top 20 which was our goal for this meet. But, hats of too Amanda. This was an outstanding way to end her career. Also, I feel the entire staff did a great job in getting her ready for each event of the heptathlon.
"It was a difficult start for Amanda this morning and it took her a couple jumps to get into it. Amanda did re-group and did it on the last long jump, clearnig 19-9 1/2. She had a decent javelin and gave it everything she had in the 800m. She didn't have a lot left at that point but did a great job. We're proud of her and couldn't be happier with the way she ended her career."
Today, her best effort came in the long jump where she cleared 19-9 1/2 and netted 862 points. The long-jump total was a lifetime best for Feigt. Her other tallies came in the javelin (110-9 for 548 points) and in the 800m (2:23.88, 772 points).
The event winner and heptathlon national champion was Jacquelyn Johnson from Arizona State. She tallied 5,984 points in winning the grueling two-day event.
This wasn't Feigt's only event at the NCAA Championship. Feigt, along with teammate Chelsea Shapard, both qualified for the preliminaries of the 400m hurdles. They finished 27th (1:03.10) and 18th (59.49), respectively.
