PROVO, UTAH - The University of Utah men's tennis (72) team had a tough day against arch rivals BYU (70) on Saturday. The Utes fell 4-3 to the Cougars; Utah is now 2-4 in conference play.

In doubles play, Zach Ganger and Miron Mann teamed up at the No. 1 slot to face James Ludlow and Domink Kaufhold from the Cougars. The Ute duo shut down the Cougars 8-3 to earn the only win in doubles play for the Utes. BYU earned the doubles point after wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 slots.

Mann finished up first in singles play. The Ute faced Christian Hand at the No. 2 slot for a 6-4, 6-3 loss. At the top spot, No. 57 Ganger faced James Ludlow. The Ute suffered a tough loss to the Cougar, who took the match 6-2, 6-4. At the No. 5 slot, Jonathan Sanchez from BYU battled Othman Zerouali-Ouariti from Utah. Sanchez took the match 6-3, 6-0 to notch the Cougars to 4-0 overall.

The wins came from sophomore Wes Hancock and two freshmen, Jason Smits and Timmy Allin. At the No. 6 slot, Allin faced Michael Eraso from the Cougars. The Ute won the straight-set battle 6-4, 6-1. Hancock finished up next at the No. 3 slot. The Ute faced Domink Kaufhold for a three-set battle. Hancock took the first set 6-3, but the Cougar matched it in the second set, pulling out a 6-3 win. In the tie-breaker, the Ute stepped it up to capture the win over Kaufhold 6-3, 3-6, 10-8.

Ending the day for the Utes was Smits at the No. 4 slot. The Ute faced Cassidy Mears from the Cougars. The first set was a close call, but Smits pulled out the win, and only let Mears win two games in the second set. The Ute took the win 7-6(8), 6-2 to finish out the overall match.
