THIS WEEK
The University of Utah men's tennis team will dive into conference play this weekend, facing TCU, UNLV, and the University of New Mexico in San Diego, Calif., hosted by San Diego State University.
OPPOSITION
Beginning on Friday, the Utes will face TCU at 2:00 p.m PST. The Horned Frogs are currently ranked No. 74 in the nation by the ITA, with a 4-8 overall record. The team is led by No. 106 Cosmin Cotet with a 10-10 overall record. In doubles play, Cotet teams up with Kriegler Brink at the No. 1 slot. The duo is ranked No. 23 in the nation with an 8-3 record. Last week, the Horned Frogs posted wins over Wichita State (7-0), No. 26 Abilene Christian University (5-0), and the University of Texas at Arlington (5-2).
UNLV will take on the Utes on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. The Rebels stand with a 7-10 overall record for the season. Leading the squad will be No. 59 Elliot Wronski, who currently has a 14-8 overall record. The Rebels had several victories last week including wins over No. 61 Mississippi State (4-3), the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville (4-3), and New Mexico State (4-0). The Rebels ended last week's competition with a 1-6 loss to No. 9 University of Southern California.
On Sunday, the Utes will face the University of New Mexico at 10:00 a.m. The Lobos are currently ranked No. 47 in the nation with an 11-5 record. The squad is led by Max Jones (14-11 overall). The Lobos hit a 6-1 win over Northern Arizona last week, followed by a 3-4 loss to No. 12 University of Texas at Austin and a 2-5 loss to No. 33 Texas A& M.
UTE NOTES
The University of Utah men's tennis team is currently ranked No. 72 in the nation by the ITA, who released their last rankings on March 27, 2007. The team holds a 10-6 overall record thus far in the season. Leading the Utes this weekend is No. 51 Zach Ganger; 23-8 overall and 9-5 in dual matches. Last week, the Utes played for two wins and two losses while on the road. They started the weekend off with UC Riverside, where they won 5-2, followed by their 6-1 victory over Dartmouth College. The Utes fell 2-5 to No. 65 Princeton and ended the weekend with a 1-5 loss to No. 62 San Diego.
