THIS WEEK
The University of Utah men's tennis team will take on three nationally ranked opponents this weekend: Oregon, Boise State, and the University of Pennsylvania, in Boise, Idaho.
All matches are scheduled to be played outdoors at the Appleton Tennis Center (weather permitting). If the weather doesn't hold, competition will be moved indoors to the Boas Tennis and Soccer Complex.
OPPOSITION
The Utes will start the weekend off with No. 19 Boise State on Friday at 9:30 a.m. MST. The team is led by No. 7 Luke Shields (Jr.) and No. 80 Clancy Shields (So.). The Broncos currently have a 9-4 season record; 3-2 at home and 6-2 on the road. Boise State played No. 75 College of William and Mary last week for a 5-2 win.
On Saturday the Utes will battle No. 75 Oregon. With an overall record of 8-4, the ducks are 7-2 at home and 1-2 on the road. The team is fresh off of a 4-3 win over No. 50 San Diego State.
Ending this weekend's competition, the Utes will face No. 66 Pennsylvania. The Quakers were last seen playing Boise State on Feb. 18 where they fell 2-5 to the Broncos. The team currently has a 1-7 season record; 1-5 at home, 0-2 on the road. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
UTE NOTES
The University of Utah men's tennis team heads into this weekend's competition after a big win over No. 60 Denver (5-2). The Utes swept doubles play over the Pioneers including Zach Ganger and Miron Mann's win over No. 40 Adam Holmstrom and Niklas Persson 8-5.
In singles play, Wes Hancock defeated Timo Kienle from Denver at the No. 3 slot 6-3, 7-5. Freshman Timmy Allin also had a big win over his opponent at the No. 6 slot. Facing Ravjot Dhatt from the Pioneers, the Ute stepped in to take the match 6-2, 7-5.
Leading the Utes this weekend will be No. 50 Ganger, who will play at the No. 1 slot in both singles and doubles with partner Mann. The team is currently 6-2 for the season; 6-0 at home, 0-2 on the road.
