THIS WEEK
The University of Utah men's tennis team will be hosting the Denver Pioneers on Saturday at Eccles Tennis Center for an afternoon match beginning at 12:00 p.m. MT.
OPPOSITION
The Denver Pioneers are currently ranked No. 58 by the ITA. The squad is fresh off of two wins over Mountain West Conference schools: the University of New Mexico (6-1) and U.S. Air Force Academy (7-0).
In singles play, the Pioneers are led by No. 21 Adam Holmstrom, a junior. Holmstrom is currently undefeated in dual match singles play with a 6-0 record.
The Pioneers will also have a ranked doubles team representing them on the courts against the Utes on Saturday. No. 44 Kalle Rosen and Timo Kienhe are set to compete at the No. 3 slot.
UTE NOTES
The University of Utah men's tennis team currently holds a No. 70 team ranking from the ITA. The Utes are now 5-2 for the season after last week's tough losses to Stetson University (3-4) and Central Florida (2-5).
The Utes will be led by junior Zach Ganger at the No. 1 slot. The Ute currently holds a No. 45 national ranking and is 5-0 in both singles and doubles play in dual matches.
IN THEIR LAST MEETING
The Utes and Pioneers faced eachother last year on Feb. 3, 2006 in Denver, Colo. The University of Utah men's tennis team walked away with a victorious 4-3 win. Ganger won his match over Niklas Persson 7-5, 7-6 at the No. 2 slot, and Wes Hancock shut down Steve Flaks 6-2, 7-6 at the No. 5 slot.
