Utah Swimming Heads to UNLV Invitational

THIS WEEK:
The University of Utah swimming and diving team will resume competition on December 15-17 at the UNLV Invitational. The Utes will travel to Las Vegas for the three-day invitational, which will feature a format similar to that of the MWC Championships. Preliminaries will take place in the morning and the top swimmers will return each evening for the finals.
UTE NOTES:
The Utah women sit at 3-3 in dual meet competition and 2-1 in the MWC. The Utes are coming off wins over Boise State and San Diego State on November 17.
Going into the UNLV Invitational the Utes will be looking at a preview of the future of Utah swimming. Ute freshman Natalie Edge will again swim in the sprint free events, where she has won at least one event in every Utah meet this season. Edge will now have a chance to show what she can do in an invitational format against some of the top athletes from around the nation.
Shannon McQueen has gotten off to a strong start as well for the Ute women, winning events in the back against New Mexico, Boise State and San Diego State. The junior will be looked to for leadership as the Utes progress this season.
The Ute men are 0-3 in dual meet competition and 0-1 in the MWC this season. This weekend will be a good benchmark for the team to find out where it is at overall and how the strength and conditioning has paid off.
Expect the Utes to get a good look at how freshmen Garret Beaman and Thomas Ekstrom are progressing. Beaman earned MWC Swimmer of the Week earlier this semester, while Ekstrom has been strong in the free events. This will be their first look at collegiate championship format racing. It is also a chance for senior Tanner Folster and junior George Evans to assume the roles of leaders for the men.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION:
The UNLV Invitational will feature host school UNLV, along with top competition from around the nation including Santa Barbara, TCU and Cal Poly.
