> Utah (8-4, 5-3 MWC) is waiting to hear its postseason destination. Utah finished tied for third in the Mountain West Conference with a 5-3 record.
> Utah ran off seven straight wins from Sept. 29-Nov. 17 before losing in the last minute to then No. 23-ranked Brigham Young on Nov. 24. Utah's win streak coincided with the return of quarterback Brian Johnson to the starting lineup (Johnson was injured in the first game).
> Utah's defense is playing as well as any in the nation heading into postseason play. Utah ranks No. 2 in the nation in pass efficiency defense (94.1) and No. 3 in scoring defense (15.6). Offensively, the Utes feature one of the best running backs in the nation in Darrell Mack, who averages 102.5 yards per game.
> The Utes have won their past six bowl games dating back to 1999, which ranks as the second-longest current bowl win streak in the nation. Teams Utah beat during that span follow: Fresno State (1999), USC (2001), Southern Miss (2003), Pittsburgh (2005, 2004 season), Georgia Tech (2005) and Tulsa (2006).
> Utah's all-time bowl record is 9-3. Utah's 75-percent bowl win percentage is the best in the nation among teams that have made at least 10 bowl appearances.
> Utah is 1-0 against Top 20 team this season, hammering then No. 11 ranked UCLA 44-6 on Sept. 15. The Utes are 2-1 against teams from BCS conferences, beating UCLA and Louisville (44-35), and losing to Oregon State (24-7).
KYLE STYLE
Kyle Whittingham is 23-14 in his third year as Utah's head coach and has won seven or more games all three years. He is 2-0 in bowl games with wins over Georgia Tech (2005) and Tulsa (2006). This is Whittngham's 14th season on the Ute staff: He spent 11 years as an assistant coach (defensive line coach in 2004 and defensive coordinator from 1995-2004), before accepting the head job on Dec. 8, 2004. A month after his appointment, he served as the co-head coach in Utah's 35-7 Fiesta Bowl victory over Pittsburgh - capping a 12-0 season. Whittingham's first game as the head coach was on Sept. 2, 2005 -a 27-24 win over Arizona.
