LAS VEGAS - For the second straight year, junior middle blocker Lori Baird has been named to the All-Mountain West Conference volleyball team, it was announced today by the MWC. The team was selected by the league's nine head coaches.
Baird ranks second in the conference and 17th in the country with 1.54 blocks per game. She is also in the top-10 in the MWC with a .303 hitting percentage. Baird is averaging 2.88 kills per game.
Baird had a career-best 17 kills twice this season, against San Diego State (9/13) and New Mexico (11/3). She had five aces vs. San Diego State (11/17). She was named MWC Co-Player of the Week on Oct. 29 after leading Utah to a 3-0 week with wins over Utah Valley, Wyoming and Air Force.
"The last half of the season Lori played at the highest level of her career," head coach Beth Launiere said. "We are proud to have her represent Utah with this award."
Fifth-seeded Utah opens the Mountain West Conference Tournament against No. 4 seed TCU on Thursday, Nov. 22, at the Cox Pavilion on the campus of UNLV at 4 p.m. PT.
