TULSA, OKLA. - University of Utah's Zach Ganger will return home from the 2007 Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tournament today after a tough loss to Bassam Beidas from Pepperdine in the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket.
Ganger, a native of Jacksonville, Fla., has had an irrefutable journey in the tournament this year. Although suffering a defeat to the No. 1 seed Somdev Devvarman (1) in the main draw, Ganger made an exceptional turn-around in the consolation bracket. Ganger, who is currently ranked No. 33 by the ITA in their pre-season poll, posted big wins over Dmytro Petrov of Oklahoma State [6-4, 7-6(5)], and Will Gray of Tulsa [6-4, 6-2] before meeting Bassam Beidas of Pepperdine in the quarterfinals.
During the quarterfinals on Saturday, Ganger fought hard in the first set to match Beidas' every point; however it was Beidas in the end that took control of the match and followed through for the victory. The Wave player will advance into the semifinals of the consolation bracket after his 6-4, 6-1 win over Ganger.
