COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -¬ Junior middle hitter Lori Baird was named Mountain West Conference Co-Volleyball Player of the Week for her performances against Utah Valley, Wyoming and Air Force. It is the first honor for a Utah player this season and Baird's second career award.
Baird led Utah to a 3-0 record on the week, including a 2-0 mark in conference play with wins over Wyoming and Air Force. In a non-conference sweep of Utah Valley, she had eight total blocks (six assisted, two solo), seven kills, three digs and a hitting efficiency of .429. Against Wyoming, Baird turned in a match-and season-high .632 hitting percentage (13-1-19), while collecting eight total blocks, two service aces and an assist in the Utes' 3-0 win. She followed with an 11-kill, seven-block performance vs. Air Force, tallying no hitting errors in 18 attempts for a .611 hitting percentage. On the week, Baird averaged 3.44 kills, 2.56 blocks, 0.44 digs, 0.44 service aces and 5.39 points per game with a .569 hitting percentage.
She shares the honor with UNLV's Lauren Miramontes.
Utah returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at Utah State beginning at 6 p.m.
