THIS WEEK: The Utes will return to action this Saturday, Sept. 16, at the Montana State Bobcat Initational. The three-mile race is set to begin at 9:40 a.m. in Bozeman, Mont.
LAST WEEK: The Utes placed fifth with 123 points at the BYU Autumn Classic last weekend. They were led freshmen Becky Mackelprang (5th) and Alyssa Abbott (26th).
Also scoring for the Utes was Lauren Enderson (28th, 20:20.8), Kellie Anderson (30th, 20:36) and Janett Ern (33rd, 21:00).
Colorado State won the race on 29 points.
UTE NOTES: In 2005 Freshman Becky Mackelprang was named to the Washington all-star team and two-time cross country and track and field team MVP. This year she has led the Utes in both cross country meets with a pair of top-10 finishes. She placed second (15:15) at the Reno Chase Race and sixth (19:00) at the BYU Autumn Classic.
Freshman Alyssa Abbott was not far behind Mackelprang for the second week in a row. She placed 26th (20:14) at the BYU Autumn Classic.
Sophomore Chelsea DiGrazia was unable to finish the race last week at the BYU Autumn Classic due to a hip injury in the first mile. She will participate in alternative training this week to work out her injury. She is listed as day-to-day.
KEPLER'S QUOTES: "We didn't run as well as I would have hoped last week at BYU," said head coach Kyle Kepler. "All we can do is move forward. We can't look back on the last meet, but we need to analyze what we did wrong and correct those mistakes."
"True freshman Becky Mackelprang really stepped up last week at BYU," Kepler continued. "Lauren Endersen also did well for us. She ran one of the better races I have seen and is beginning to develop nicely.""Montana State is a good meet. We have been successful there in the past and I hope we can do the same this year. The team needs to step up and focus on racing and perform to the best of our ability."
NEXT WEEK: The Utes have a weekend off before hosting the Utah Fall Twilight on Sept. 29 in Salt Lake City. The 6k race will be held at Rose Park Golf Course and is set to begin at 5:30p.m
