The day could not have gone much better. The course looked great and the meet ran smoothly. I can't tell you how thankful I am for all the people involved. Our administration, my coaching staff, the university support staff, Rose Park Golf Course, our track team, and all the volunteers....a HUGE thank you to everyone. I look forward to hosting many more home meets in the future. The immediate future includes the conference championships in three weeks (Oct. 28th). That should be another great meet and we hope a large group of Utah supporters will show up to cheer our team to a high place finish.
As far as the race goes I thought our team ran ok. Three of the gals had been ill at different points during the week and two were still not at a 100% for the race. Becky gave a gallant effort in trying to win the race up front. Our 2-5 ran a strong race. Had they gone out just a little quicker I think we'd have been able to finish second place. Regardless, it was great to see them run together the way they did. Chelsea DiGrazia has done a nice job of leading that group. Freshman Steph Skoreyko is feeling better on a daily basis which is a huge positive in terms of our depth. Everyone else continues to develop and get better on a daily basis. We still have a ways to go, but little by little, we are making the necessary progress to meet our team goals.
No race this coming weekend, so I'll be back in two weeks after we compete at the Chile Pepper Festival at the University of Arkansas. This is a huge meet with 35-40 teams, including several top-25 ranked teams. We ran very well at this meet a year ago, so hopefully we can generate some momentum for the conference meet with a great race down in the South!
