SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah ended the first day of the Wilson ITA Central Regional Tournament on Wednesday with three singles players advancing in the qualifying draw. The main draw will begin on Thursday beginning at 8: 30 a.m.

Utah sophomore Karine Bourdages played a stand-out match in the Round of 64 on Wednesday against Kaja Smole of Denver. After losing the first set 4-6 to Smole, the Ute stepped up to take the second set 6-3. The tie breaker ended in Bourdages' favor to take the match 4-6, 6-3, 1-0(6). The Ute advanced into the Round of 32 to face Brianna Harris of Utah State. Bourdages had to fight hard to take the first set 7-5 over the Aggie. Harris challenged Bourdages for the second set, but the Ute dug deep for the 6-4 win. The Ute will play Julia Bauregger of Denver on Thursday in the Round of 16.

After receiving a bye in the Round of 64, Cheyenne Reveche faced conference rival Rana El Derwy of BYU in the Round of 32. Reveche shut out the first set 6-0 and didn't allow the cougar to answer back in the second set. The Ute allowed only one game to be taken by El Derwy before taking the set and match 6-0, 6-1. Reveche will face Leslie Vial of Northern Arizona on Thursday.

Cinthia Saucedo faced Aleka Costa of New Mexico State in the Round of 64. The two played through two sets with Saucedo taking the win 6-2, 6-2. Moving into the Round of 32, the Ute was challenged by Jamie Nelson of Wyoming. The Cowboy slid by with a 7-6 win over Saucedo. The Ute answered back with a 6-2 victory in the second set. At the end of the tie breaker, Saucedo walked away victorious with a 6-7, 6-2, 1-0(7) win. The Ute will play Gleisy Torres Torres of Colorado on Thursday in the Round of 16.
