Salt Lake City - The University of Utah women's tennis team wrapped up the Mountain West regular season yesterday with a close (4-3) loss to No. 45 ranked San Diego State University at home in the Eccles Tennis Center.
In doubles, the Utes tallied wins at the No. 2 and 3 spots to earn the one point lead. The duo of Whitney Eber and Emily Kwok posted an 8-6 win over Dita Hauerlandova and Alesya Vidov at No. 2, while Cheyenne Reveche and Cinthia Saucedo teamed up at No. 3 and defeated Andrea Hermansen and Sisse Nielsen (8-6).
In singles, the Aztecs rallied back by taking four of the six singles spots. Utah only managed to collect two wins. At No. 1, Liz Ferris dispatched Vidov (6-2, 6-4) and Saucedo breezed past Carla Bell (6-0, 6-2) at No. 6.
The women's tennis team finished the season with a 13-11 overall record and a 3-4 mark in the conference. Next up, the Utes compete in the Mountain West Conference tournament Apr. 28-30 in San Diego, Calif.
