THIS WEEK:
The University of Utah swimming and diving teams travel to Denver, Colo., to take on the University of Denver Pioneers on Thursday-Friday, Nov. 3-4. The meet starts at 5 p.m. on Thursday, and noon on Friday. Both Utah teams are 1-0 on the season after defeating UC San Diego over the weekend.
QUOTING HEAD COACH Michael Litzinger:
"Denver is a rapidly improving squad and will be ready for us. It was good to be in a truly competitive environment last weekend. UCSD raced us well, and our athletes responded. Some of our times were impressive, but we have a lot of work to do as it is a short week ahead of us."
UC SAN DIEGO RECAP:
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of Utah men's and women's swimming and diving teams started their season off by defeating UC San Diego in a dual meet Saturday. The women won 13 of 16 events to beat the Tritons 180-116, while the men won 12 of 16 events to win by a score of 160.5-138.5. The men and women improve to 1-0 on the season with the women marking their tenth straight dual-meet victory.
Top finishers for the women were: Jennifer Fredsall (100 fly, 57.03; 200 fly, 2:07.60), Rachael Curci (1000 free, 10:29.40), Alison McInturff (200 free, 1:55.13), Marissa Martin (100 back, 59.69; 200 back, 2:05.91), Amber Walter (100 breast, 1:04.28), 200 medley team of Leah Jensen, Walter, Fredsall and Amy Barefield (1:47.50).
Top placers for the men were: Jonathan Larsen (50 free, 20.35; 100 free, 45.63), Jeremy Clark (500 free, 4:40.50; 1000 free, 9:39.32), Andrew Cole (100 back, 52.11; 200 back, 1:53.17), Michel DeCarolis (200 breast, 2:11.88), Andrew Brown (200 fly, 1:54.62).
In diving, Sterling Richards took both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving titles. Richards scored 299.17 points in the 1-meter and 329.02 in the 3-meter. Kelsey Patterson won the 1-meter event with a score of 243.23.
SCOUTING DENVER:
Denver's women's team finished third with 383.5 points, with the men's team tallying 254.5 points to place fourth at the Pacific Invitational Oct. 28-29. The men's team is 0-1 in dual meets after dropping an early season meet to Air Force 101-140, while the women's team has yet to compete in a dual meet this season.
