SALT LAKE CITY - It's already rivalry week for the University of Utah swimming and diving teams and the season is just about to begin. The Utes' campaign begins on Thursday with a rematch of last year's regular season finale.
The Utes host the Don Reddish Relays on Thursday, Oct. 13, at the Ute Natatorium. Events begin at 6 p.m. Villanova will join Utah and BYU for the tri-meet.
Last year, the Utes and BYU met at the Ute Natatorium in a showdown for the conference championship. Both of Utah's men and women swam past their rivals and nabbed the title, a first for the women's team at the U.
"The Don Reddish Relays are a great way to begin our season," head coach Michael Litzinger said. "I am pleased that the meet is named in honor of one of the University of Utah's coaching legends. The meet will give us an opportunity to see our team in a competitive situation, and adding Villanova to the mix will be exciting."
Utah is buoyed by the return of six conference champions between the men and women. The men's team welcomes back 13 letterwinners from 2005-06 while the women have 15. Among those returning are 2005 MWC Champions Jonathan Larsen (100 free), Sterling Richards (3-meter diving), Alison McInturff (100, 200 free), Michelle Blair (200 fly), Kelsey Patterson (3-meter diving) and Rachael Curci (800 free relay).
