Eugene, Ore. - The University of Utah women's tennis team downed Portland 6-1 to complete their third day of competition on the road in Oregon.
The Utes claimed the one point lead early on by winning two of three doubles matches. Sophomore Whitney Eber teamed up with freshman Liz Ferris to defeat Cristin Sammis and Alyson Tyson (9-8 (8-6) ) at No. 1. At the No. 2 spot, freshmen Emily Kwok and Cheyenne Reveche downed the Portland duo of Sanja Indic and Lindsay Griffin (8-6).
In singles, Utah picked up wins at five positions. Eber conquered Portland's Alyson Tyson (6-0, 6-1) at the No. 3 position. She has gone undefeated in the first matches of the season.
Utah is next in action Friday, Jan. 28 against Montana St. at 9: 30 a.m. and Northern Colo. at 4:00 p.m. Competition takes place in Billings, Mont.
