Sept. 28, 2004

Provo, Utah - The University of Utah women's tennis team opened up its fall season with the BYU Invitational. The tournament included players from Boise State, BYU, Colorado State, University of Denver, New Mexico State, Utah State and Weber. Competition began on Thursday, Sept. 23 and concluded on Saturday, Sept. 25 with the finals.

The Utes did not pick up any wins in the quarterfinals but they came back with some success in the consolation rounds. After losing a close match to BYU's Lauren Jones in the quarterfinals, Utah newcomer Elizabeth Ferris defeated Boise State's Alissa Ayling (6-2, 7-6) in the first flight of the consolation finals.

In the third flight of the consolation finals, new Ute and freshman Cheyenne Reveche dispatched Utah State's Courtney Anderson (2-6, 6-1, 6-1) for the win. Utah senior Allison Hansen picked up the win when Boise State opponent, Stacey Housley retired (6-3, 4-1, Ret. Inj.) in the fifth flight.

Utah women's tennis continues preseason play at the ITA Central Regionals on Oct. 20-24 in Tulsa, Okla.
