THIS WEEK: The University of Utah women's tennis team takes on conference opponent Air Force on Friday, April 9 at 10: 00 a.m. in Provo and No. 33 New Mexico on Saturday at 10: 30 a.m. at the Eccles Tennis Center.
REVIEWING LAST WEEK: Utah picked up its first ever loss to Weber State on April 2 in Ogden. The Wildcats edged the Utes 4-3. On Sunday, April 4, the Utes topped the University of Portland 4-3 at home to break a ten-match losing streak.
UTE NOTES: Junior Allison Hansen and freshman Ashley Young are still unable to compete due to injury. Shannon Bullard, a junior from Ogden, and Jenacee Jackson, a freshman from Salt Lake, have joined the lineup to help the Utes out.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION: Air Force is 13-6 overall on the season. In conference play, the Falcons defeated Wyoming 4-3 but fell 4-2 to Colorado State putting them at 1-1 in the Mountain West. They are coached by Kim Gidley, who is in her fifth season.
New Mexico is currently ranked No. 33 with a 13-3 overall record. The Lobos have a perfect 7-0 record at home. The women's tennis team is 2-0 in the Mountain West Conference with wins over Wyoming and Colorado.
Head Coach Kathy Kolankiewicz is in her 19th season with the Lobos. She has two nationally ranked singles players on the roster this year, No. 103 Iva Gersic and No. 73 Maja Kovacek.
QUOTING HEAD COACH Megan Dorny: "After finally breaking our losing streak we are optimistic going into this weekend. Whitney is playing great and hopefully we can get our doubles performances up as that point is key. UNM is highly ranked, but we have set. ourselves as a good home team and look forward to that match at home."
