IRVINE, Calif. - The University of Utah women's tennis team fell to No. 65 UC Irvine 6-1 at Anteater Tennis Stadium.
Utah won one of the three doubles matches but did not get the point. At the No. 3, sophomore Jenessa Jackson and freshman Whitney Eber defeated Christine Posner and Veronica Fermin (8-5). Senior Sheri Esrock and freshman Cinthia Saucedo lost (8-2) to Hui Leow and Tiffany Chang at the No. 1, while senior Rachel Alder and freshman Jessica Watts dropped to Anna Bentzer and Jayme Hu (8-0) at the No. 2.
The Anteaters dominated in singles, however, the Utes picked up a point at the No. 3. Saucedo won the first set (7-6).Her opponent Leow retired, giving the win to Saucedo. At the No. 1, Esrock fell to Bentzer (6-3, 6-1) and Eber fell to Chang (6-3, 6-2) at the No. 2. Alder, playing at the No. 4, dropped to Kristina Boss (6-1, 6-0), while Watts, playing at the No. 5, lost to Posner (6-4, 6-4). The final loss came at the No. 6 when Jackson was downed (7-6, 6-2) by Kelly Savin.
The Utes continue on the road with a match up against No. 64 Long Beach State at Long Beach on Friday, March 19.
