SALT LAKE CITY - University of Utah's Kelsie Kartchner earned the Mountain West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week honor, marking her second career honor.
Kartchner, a Pleasant Grove, Utah, product, led the No. 17-ranked Utes to sweeps over conference opponents San Diego State and UNLV last week, tallying her eighth and ninth double-doubles of the season in the process. Against the Aztecs, she totaled 15 assists, 10 digs and nine kills on 21 attempts (.333 efficiency) , finishing one shy of her third career triple-double. She also had three service aces and a block. Kartchner hit a season-best .632 against UNLV, racking up 12 kills and no errors on 19 attacks. She also helped set the Utah attack, collecting a match-high 26 assists for her second double-double in as many matches, and six digs.
For the week, Kartchner averaged 6.83 assists and 2.67 digs per game, while tallying three aces, three blocks and hitting .475 (21-2-40) in two matches.
Kartchner is the third Ute to garner the honor this year. Connie Dangerfield won the award for scooping a conference-record 33 digs against UCLA while Lyndsey Henderson won it in leading the Utes in wins over No. 10 Colorado State and Wyoming.
Kartchner and the Utah volleyball squad return to action on this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 12-13, to host Wyoming and Colorado State, respectively. Going into action this week, Utah is 12-0 in the conference and on the cusp of winning its first MWC regular season title. Both matches are at Crimson Court and start at 7 p.m.
