BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The University of Utah men's and women's swimming and diving teams finished the second day of the Indiana Invite with the men in third and the women in fourth. The men tallied 555.50 points, while the women scored 423.50 points.
No.14 Indiana leads the men's teams with 839 points, while No. 12 Kentucky is in second with 686.50 points. Cincinnati is in last place with 313.
On the women's side, No. 25 Indiana leads all scores with 592 points. No. 15 Michigan is in second with 558 points, followed by Kentucky at 432. Illinois claimed the fifth place spot with 311 points, while Toledo finished the day in sixth with 219.50 points. Miami came in seventh with 168 points and Cincinnati rounded out the field in eighth with 76 points.
In the 200 medley relay, both the men's and women's team finished in fourth place. The women's team of Leah Jensen, Ariane Kich, Michelle Blair and Amy Barefield finished with a time of 1:44.63. The men's team of Andrew Cole, Evan Castro, Cody Rempfer and Jonathan Larsen finished with a 1:32.47 time.
For the women, Alison McInturff placed second in the 200 free with a time of 1:49.89, while Loren Sweny finished seventh with a time of 1:52.32. McInturff's time in the 200 free is a NCAA `B' cut. Blair finished fourth in the 100 fly with a time of 56.52, while Ariane Kich swam a the 100 breast in 1:05.16 to claim fifth place. In the 100 back, Jensen finished fifth with a time of 58.12.
In the men's competition, Castro claimed top honors in the 100 breast with a time of 56.25. In the 100 fly, Rempfer finished second with a time of 49.72, while Cole claimed third place in the 100 back with a time of 51.74. Nick Galen placed fourth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:04.58
In the diving competitions, junior Sterling Richards finished second with a score of 289.50 in the 1-meter event, while Damien Brown finished fifth with a 258.70. Kelsey Patterson finished fourth in the 3-meter event with a 433.65 score.
The Utes will finish the final day of the Indiana Invite tomorrow.
