BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The University of Utah men's and women's swimming and diving teams are in third place after the first day of competition at the Indiana Invitational. The men scored 259 points, while the women tallied 198.
For the women, Utah's 200 free relay team of Amy Barefield, Alison McInturff, Meghan Demchuk and Jamie Trapp finished sixth with a time of 1:36.53. Senior Marta Stepanczuk finished third in the 500 free with a time of 4:54.02, while Loren Sweny placed sixth (4:59.60). In the 200 IM, Trapp finished fifth (2:07.20), while Demchuk finished sixth (2:07.98). Barefield claimed third place in the 50 free with a time of 23.50.
For the men, Cody Rempfer finished second in the 200 IM with a time of 1:50.92, while Nick Galen finished sixth (1:54.40). In the 200 free relay, Utah's team of Jonathan Larsen, Rempfer, Andrew Cole and David Maasberg finished fourth with a time of 1:22.99. In the 50 free, Larsen finished fourth in the 50 free with a 20.94 time. In the 400 medley relay, Utah's claimed a fourth place finish with a time of 3:21.70. The team consisted of Cole, Evan Castro, Rempfer and Larsen.
In the diving competitions, sophomore Kelsey Patterson finished fourth in the 1-metere event with a score of 242.80. In the men's 3-meter event, junior Sterling Richards finished third with a score of 476.90 and Damien Brown finished fifth with a score of 437.35.
The second day of competition kicks off tomorrow at 7 a.m. MST.
