Salt Lake City - The University of Utah men's tennis team opened its season yesterday with the Utah Invitational. The Utes fared well in the qualifying rounds of singles and doubles.
Sophomore Jason Yap and junior Tomasz Grzyb teamed up to defeat Utah State's Joao Pinho and Dantley Young in the quarterfinals (8-5). Sophomore Miron Mann and freshman Zach Ganger picked up a (9-8(4)) win over Utah State's Brian Ballam and Colorado State's Marek Dvorak. Both duos advance to the doubles semifinals on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
The quarterfinals for the doubles consolation bracket will played at 5: 00 p.m. Singles competition continues with the Round of 16 at 11:00 a.m. and the second consolation round at 1:00 p.m.
