PALO ALTO, Calif. - The University of Utah cross country teams finished the Stanford Invitational on Sat., Sept. 27. The meet featured athletes from 24 teams competing in the men's 8K race and 30 women's teams competing in the 6K race, including powerhouses Stanford, Wisconsin and Arkansas.
Today marked the first time in a year that the women's team ran a 6K race. The Utes performed admirably placing tenth (262 points) out of a total of 22 teams. Leading the way for the women's team was Nellie Hammons who notched an impressive 28th-place finish. She was followed by Elise Greenwood, who despite feeling ill before the race, finished with a 36th-place mark. Jenny Brusch finished 45th, Kristin Taylor finished 75th and Jennie Haertel finished 78th to round off the top five.
The men's team finished 12th (336 points) out of 22 teams with Jeff Davidson leading the way. He notched a 28th-place finished followed by Nick McKay at 40th. JP Rooney finished 76th, Tim Goldhardt finished 86th and Cameron Christeson finished 106th.
"We put up a decent effort as a team. Our women's team got off to a slow start but began to move up," states Head Coach Brian Appell. "Jeff Davidson and Nick McKay had pretty good races for our men's team."
