SALT LAKE CITY - University of Utah Women's Tennis Head Coach Megan Payne-Dorny is proud to announce the signing of three new players and the addition of one transfer for the 2003-04 season. Utah will welcome the following student-athletes: Ashley Young from Orem, Utah (Timpanogas HS), Whitney Eber from Naples, Florida (Barron Collier HS), Cinthia Saucedo from Puebla, Mexico (Colegio Benavente) and San Diego State transfer Jenessa Jackson who graduated from Skyline High School.
Ashley Young -- Timpanogas High School -- Orem, Utah
Two-time Utah class 4A state champion in No. 1 singles in 2002-03 ... named Timpanogas female athlete of the year ... graduated with an overall 3.95 GPA ... father was an Olympic gymnast in 1976.
Whitney Eber -- Barron Collier High School -- Naples, Florida
Florida class 3A Division I singles runner-up in 2003 ... named Naples Daily News tennis player of the year in '03 ... won the USTA father-daughter mixed double national title ... father Warren Eber is a professional tennis instructor in Naples, Fla., and mother Judy Eber was a tennis player for the University of Utah ... sister Paige currently plays for the University of Louisville.
Cinthia Saucedo -- Colegio Benavente -- Puebla, Mexico
Ranked as high as fourth nationally in Mexico ... has held International Tennis Federation junior rankings ... competed on the Mexican national team ... honored by former Mexican president Dr. Ernesto Zedillo for her academic excellence.
Jenessa Jackson -- San Diego State University -- Salt Lake City, Utah
Signed with San Diego State out of high school ... two-time Utah class 5A state champion in singles (No. 2 singles in 1999 and No. 1 singles in 2001) ... two-time state runner-up in 2000 and 2002 ... ranked in the top four by the USTA Intermountain Section for Competitive Junior Tennis.
