Utah Men's Tennis Win in Sweeping Fashion

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -- The University of Utah men's tennis team won two matches today in a dominant showing over two non-conference opponents, toppling Portland State and Weber State both at 7-0. The two wins put Utah at 10-13 on the season with one match to go heading in to next week's Mountain West Conference Championships.
The Utes started off on the day with Portland State in a morning match-up. Nick Coutts and Roeland Brateanu defeated Beau Smith and Chuck Haselwood 8-3 in number one doubles to start the day off. Tyler Poulson teamed with Tomasz Grzyb, and Mike Bullard teamed with Daniel Lohff, with both Ute teams defeating their opponents.
In singles against Portland State, the Utes won all six matches without dropping a set. Mike Bullard again filled in ably in number six singles for just his fourth match this year, with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Colin Gillam.
In the afternoon match against Weber State, the Utes were again strong. Gryzb and Poulson, and Lohff and Bullard doubled for two 8-3 wins in numbers two and three singles, respectively. Daniel Lohff defeated former Ute Jonathan Engelbrecht 6-4, 7-5 in number one singles.
The Utes now look to play Montana State on Wednesday the 16th at 1:30 p.m. in what will be both the final home match and conclusion of the regular season, in a home match for Utah.
