SALT LAKE CITY -- The University of Utah women's tennis team concluded its final match before opening conference play with 6-1 loss to #39 South Carolina. With the loss, the Utes are now 4-7 on the season.
Head Coach Megan Dorny was especially pleased with the efforts of Ellen Svensson. With a partner switch, Svensson was paired with Allison Hansen. Despite an 8-5 loss to Kathy Boyonovich and Magda Wojdylo, Dorny saw some good. ???eEllen played phenomenally with her new partner.??? In other doubles action, Cassie Kasteler and Maria Svensson fel to Danielle Wiggins and Jodi Kenoyer 8-3, as well as Sheri Esrock and Hilary Doyle falling 8-1 to Catherine Brown and Jusitne Walsh.
Dorny was also pleased with the play in singles. ???eOur top three spots played very competitivley against them,???sup>TM Dorny said. Ellen Svensson defeated Kathy Boyonivich 7-6 (2), 2-6, (10-8) in number one singles. Sheri Esrock and Cassie Kasteler also extended their competition to three sets in their respective matches, but both fell just shor t in the end.
The Utes will travel to New Mexico on March 29, to resume competition against their Mountain West Conference foes.
