SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's swimming team beat San Diego State on Friday night. Utah won by a score of 133-98 and moved to 1-0 (1-0 MWC). The win marked the opening of the Mountain West Conference schedule and has the team off to an undefeated start.
Utah was led by Amy Barefield, who won three events. Barefield was a winner in the 200 medley relay (1:47.28), 100 free (52.63) and the 200 free relay (1:38.55). The Utes also saw Kristen Kaiser, Jamie Trapp, Marta Stepanczuk, Meghan Demchuk and Alison McInturff win two events each.
San Diego State was unable to swim the past week due to wildfires at home. "San Diego State was in a tough spot, having to be out of the water for a week. They swam very well considering the circumstances," comments Head Coach Michael Litzinger. "Our depth was superior, and we swam very well tonight."
The Utes will swim against UNLV on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 2:00 p.m., where both the men and women will be in action.
